Working from home has both pros and cons.
Pros:
On one hand, you get to stay close to everything at home which may include the children or pets also you are just a few steps away from the kitchen.
Cons:
But on the other hand this comes with lots of distractions which can make the concept very difficult.
Solution:
Build a Small Office, Home Office (SOHO) in your own back garden,
- First you need to decide how larger a space you need.
- Consider how you are getting the services to your new office, Power, Phone and Internet. This could also help you decide where in your garden the office building will be situated.
- Decide who you will purchase the building from. This will allow you to to plan the base that you need for the building.
How Ronimix can help:
You need a good quality concrete base, without that, even the most expensive office building will struggle and you will have problems over the years. This is the most important part in the purchase of a office building.
Building a base is a relatively easy task for an average DIY’er, the most important thing is to plan what type of base you are going to put down and to allow sufficient time to do this before your new pride and joy is delivered. The most long lasting is a concrete base.
You initially need to clear the area of any vegetation and grass where the cabin is to go. You will need some shuttering, essentially some timber planks about 150 mm x 25 mm (6″ x 1″) in size. You then need to fix these into place around the perimeter of the shed by digging into the ground slightly and anchoring the boards into place with timber wedges.
You will need to know the size of your new office building and this is important. Many people (so-called experts) will tell you to make the base 6 inches larger than your proposed cabin. This is bad advice as this will allow rain to fall onto the concrete and possibly run under the cabin making the floor joists wet. By making the concrete base the same size as the cabin this will stop this from happening. Also, the top of the concrete should be 25-50 mm (1-2″) above the surrounding ground level and this will also help to keep the floor dry.
With the shuttering in place (always ask the size from your supplier) and with the top of the shuttering about 25-50 mm(1-2 inches) above ground level you will be able to pour concrete into the enclosed area. A concrete base works best when you are able to lay a compacted hardcore base of around 100 mm (4 inches) and then another 100 mm (4 inches) of concrete above that, keeping the surface as perfectly level as possible.
If it is a very small office you could wheel barrow by hand, or you can have the concrete pumped by Ronimix who will mix the exact amount of concrete on site.
If you’re not sure you have estimated your required concrete amount quite right, don’t worry – we mix your concrete on-site for you and you only pay for what you use. Why not try our concrete calculator you can find below to help you estimate the amounts you will need?
You need to determine whether you’ll need planning permission you can view official government site for more info on building regulations
